Program Integrity (PI)

The Program Integrity (PI) Team investigates fraud, waste, inappropriate use, and abuse as well as complaints and concerns regarding publicly funded and supported benefits and services. The Program Integrity team is devoted to ensuring that payments are accurate and that fraud, waste, or program abuse are identified and prevented.

  • You are encouraged to make a report and may choose to remain anonymous. 
  • All complaints and referrals are kept confidential and are protected from disclosure. 
  • Benefits fraud is committed when people receive or attempt to receive publicly funded and supported benefits by providing false and inaccurate information, or by withholding information needed to correctly determine eligibility for benefits.
  • PI reviews are not intended to impugn the integrity of anyone but merely to verify the accuracy of the information provided.

Reporting Fraud

  • To report suspected fraud in New Hanover County call 910-798-3500 from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday and ask to be connected to Program Integrity. 
  • Outside of regular business hours, you may call 910-798-3769 and leave a message. 
  • All information provided is confidential, and you may remain anonymous.
