NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – Two New Hanover County tax employees were recently recognized with the North Carolina Tax Collectors Association’s highest individual honors.
New Hanover County Tax Administrator Allison Snell has been selected as the association’s 2022 Outstanding Tax Collector, while Collections Supervisor Trina Baxley was named the 2022 Outstanding Tax Employee. It’s the first time in the association’s history that these awards were given to employees from the same county.
Blind nominations were presented to the association’s Awards Committee for consideration. After a review of the credentials, the committee selected these New Hanover County representatives for the awards.
“What an honor to be recognized by my peers across the state. I’m so proud of the work my team and I have been able to accomplish for New Hanover County and am grateful that someone took the time to consider me worthy of this honor,” Baxley said. “It’s been so rewarding to see the fruit of our labor and to have the opportunity to implement improvements for the public as well as our internal operations.”
Baxley’s nomination noted that since joining the county she has implemented many process improvements, including cross-training to ensure sustainability and availability among her team. Additionally, she has led her team to steadily increase the collection rate while making excellent customer service a priority.
Since taking over as the Tax Administrator for New Hanover County, Snell has worked to improve efficiencies in how the office operates while raising the collection rate to its highest level ever. A former NCTCA President, she is regarded as a valuable resource across the state who is called upon by others throughout to evaluate new ideas and processes on how to improve customer service.
“It’s truly an honor to be recognized and to receive such a prestigious award. I consider myself fortunate to be in a position to mentor others as they move through their careers, both locally in this office, as well as around the state,” Snell said. “Serving others is always at the heart of what we do. I’m proud of the work our tax team does and of the fact that we’re always looking for new ways to provide the best service possible.”
